When more than 61,000 people applied for only 51,000 tickets to the Scotland-Italy Euro 2008 qualifier back in November 2007, Glasgow City Council thought it might be a good idea to organise an official “overspill event” for the 10,000+ football fans that would otherwise have been left at the turnstiles.
So, the world’s biggest marquee was booked and shipped-in from Germany, a 40 foot bar was built, a massive stage erected and Zap! Entertainment was tasked with the job of organising the entertainment for what had the potential to be our country’s greatest footballing “moment”.
However, needless to say, our national squad managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory with a 2-1 win for Italy when the final whistle blew. Still, we had a great wee party to ourselves on Glasgow Green….
